It’s that time of year again…College Commitment Day 2017 that is! For those of you who don’t know, over 2,500 students across the Hampton Roads region commit by May 1st which college they will attend in the fall. Jpixx partnered with Rubin Communications Group and Access College Foundation to cover the event at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, VA. We got some amazing photos and video so keep your eyes peeled for that.
Access College Foundation advisors guide students as they apply for college, file for financial aid, scholarships and walk them through the college application process. For some, they are the first in their families to attend college.
These students won’t be saying “Cash Me Outside” they’ll be proudly boasting Catch Me in College 2017 soooo howbow dah! Check out our BTS from the day. It was pretty LIT 🙂

And the perfect wrap shot. Gotta love the Access, Z104 and Jpixx crew. We family 🙂
The judges this year included well-respected and industry professionals Brenda Barkley, Narissa Bond, Hunter Hughes and Paul Shugrue. On March 17th, in front of a sold out performance at the Victorian Station in Hampton, VA – they selected Luke Willette as the 2017 Emerging Artist Winner (Luke won a free promo video via Jpixx as well as studio recording time from Soniqual and a Paul Reed Smith Guitar for taking home the top prize).
But as we’ve done for several years, the fine folks at Jpixx thought it would be fun to see who would come out on top if we let the public decide. So we posted a performance of each contestant on our website and held a free online poll. The incentive? The winner would receive a FREE MUSIC VIDEO – compliments of Jpixx (that’s a $3K value!!). While voting for their favorite artists, viewers could also see all the great action that was happening throughout the Sea Level Fest through a compilation of photos and videos we had put together. (Did we mention that Jpixx sponsors the Sea Level Festival every year 🙂
So before we announce the ONLINE winner … let’s throw it back to last year for a sec shall we?
In case you forgot, Andy Geels won the Emerging Artist Contest last year! Check out this promo below 🙂
Now check out the music video we shot for Audience Choice Winner, Logan Layman two years ago.
Now onto the most important news!!! The winner of the 2017 Jpixx Emerging Artist Online Poll is…….
EMILY GAINES
Emily Gaines comes from a gifted musical family. She has been singing since she could talk. Unfortunately, tragedy struck when she lost her father and brother before she graduated high school and endured relentless bullying. Her self-imposed isolation as a result, bred creativity. It was in that space her songwriting helped her triumph over her obstacles.
Keep your eyes peeled for her Jpixx-produced music video! But for now..catch one of her performances at the 2017 Emerging Artist Contest 🙂
Congratulations Emily! If you can’t get enough of this Sea Level goodness, watch this compilation highlight video we cooked up last year.
And check out photos and video from the rest of the fest on the Jpixx Sea Level landing page – and stay tuned for our latest music video with Miss Gaines!
We had an AMAZING opportunity to join the SXSW video crew this year at the annual South by Southwest Festival in Austin, TX. Jon and Jim flew in to shoot B-roll for the fest, help w highlight video edits, and take part in all the film, music and interactive awesomeness. Check out some of the sights below!
We arrived a few days early during the EDUfest, so the registration line wasn’t toooooo bad.
First order of business – GET SOME FOOD! We had access to some killer food trucks – and dem tacos called my name just about every day. I fueled up with energy drinks, while Jim fueled up with naps.
I was all about the film screenings, and managed to get into the Terrence Malick premiere of “Song to Song” (starring Ryan Gosling and Michael Fassbender). I also made sure to pop into the Shorts Program, Music Video screenings and Animated Shorts – all of which were over-the-top creative and masterpieces in and of themselves. I asked Wyatt Cenac a question after his premiere and got this producer-autographed poster of the new Pixar short “Lou”.
But let’s not forget we were there to WORK! Lugging around the camera gear while scampering around Austin was brutal – especially during those days of rain. Wrist was hurting after 10 days of hand-holding that C300ii.
And then there was the MUSIC! Incredibel performances by Aloe Blac, Jain, Lizzo, Jimmy Eat World and the Chainsmokers. Killer venues AND shows!!
Oh, and the keynote speakers (Cory Booker, Casey Neistat), the Sessions (Seth Rogen) the expo, the activated sponsors, and the 360 VR area…..arghghghgh! Too much to take in!
And finally, the parties and friends we saw and made. Artists, musicians, filmmakers, journalists….. an absolutely perfect collection of crazy cool people.
Here’s a toast to a wonderful year – and you can bet your boots we’ll be back!! Thank you SXSW! To see samples of our video highlights coverage, check out the official SXSW youtube channel.
Ten finalists duked it out on stage for a solo show at Zeider’s American Dream Theater, recording time at Soniqual Studio, a brand spankin’ new Paul Reed Smith SE Angelus Acoustic Guitar, radio and tv promos and a free promo video shot by yours truly JPIXX! If you missed out the sold out show, you can view each artist at the Jpixx Online Poll – where the top vote-getter will receive their very own Jpixx music video! Vote and share!!
The vibe of the crowd was warm, supportive and seriously immersed in the music. Two original song performances made it tough as an audience member to choose who should win – so you know the judges had a tough time. Check out the BTS pics from our time at the showcase.
Shout out to Jessa and Karla for taking these beautiful headshots of the finalists. Go team!
The showcase was held inside of this quaint and cozy home converted into a tea house. It’s a lot larger on the inside.
MaryAnn Tobaz talking up the crowd about the importance of the arts!
And on to the finalists 🙂 but first last year’s winner Andy Geels performed a couple of his songs to lead off the show.

…he won!!
Don’t forget to buy your tickets to the 10th Annual Sea Level Singer/Songwriter Festival to see Luke Willett along with other talented local artists perform! Also, don’t forget to vote in the Jpixx Online Poll – you can help decide who the next Jpixx music video should go to!!
For those of you who don’t know, Frost Fest is an appreciation party thrown by Jpixx (Jon & Teviya Abrahams) to show thanks to the Jpixx crew and clients for their continued friendship and business.
This is the second Frost Fest party in three years and once again, the theme was “Frost.” The party was organized by our very own Jessa Gaul and was held at Central 111 in Virginia Beach.
The venue was decorated like a winter wonderland with an open bar (thanks Jon & Teviya for the free food and dranks), great music, and a few surprise that made a pretty awesome turn out. Check out some BTS photos of an unforgettable night.

While it would be incredibly hilarious to post the more incriminating pics here, we’ll just stop here and say it was a great night…lots of dancing on tables, eating, drinking and having fun with a group of people who mean the most to the Jpixx team. Thanks to everyone who came out and for helping us shut the club DOWN!!
Pediatric cancer not only affects the child diagnosed, it affects the family members too in a major way. The Roc Solid Ready Bag contains a wealth of items a family may need during an unexpected hospital stay. From toiletries, pens, journals, preloaded debit cards to something as simple as quarters for vending machines; the Roc Solid Foundation provides a small yet, kind gesture through this bag that reminds families they are not alone in this journey.
The day consisted of photographing a family of 5 whose youngest, 2-year old Lauren, was diagnosed with Leukemia. The support and love this family had for one another and little Lauren was so evident and their resilience as a family radiated the room the moment they walked in. Although Lauren has pediatric cancer, she didn’t skip a beat on set. She played, smiled, laughed, and even colored (thanks Victoria for the coloring books and toys).
Here are some behind-the-scenes photos taken on set and keep scrollin’ to the bottom for the moving Roc Solid Ready Bag video 🙂
If the light shining through isn’t an embodiment of hope, I don’t know what is.
Heidi (Executive Producer) on set supporting the crew and featured family.
Will and Chandler setting up.
Chandler just got his hair done and his makeup touched up by the incredible Victoria (our makeup artist)! Just add a little more contouring and he’ll be all set lol
And the setup is complete…let’s shoot!

There are many ways to provide support to families affected by pediatric cancer, please visit Roc Solid Foundation’s website to learn more.
Jpixx not only produced Filmily Fest this year, they created a short film (not in competition) under the same inspiraiton guidelines that Filmily filmmakers were required to follow. Double the fun!!
The ‘Art imitates life’ saying was true to form because “Carried Away” was inspired by true events. Over the summer, we had a bunch of gear stolen, and just a few days later the same thing happened to someone else who ended up following the culprits and leading the the police straight to them. We shot this comedic short film in the Neon District of Downtown Norfolk. Big shout out to the Downtown Norfolk Council for letting us play in the streets with no trouble 🙂
Check out these behind-the-scenes flicks we got on set below:.
Look at these two (Karla & Maria) striking a pretty gnarly pose on set. This needs to be framed!
Here’s Jon grabbin’ some stills for the film poster!
Olivia was sooo tired of eating ice cream at this point lol
Jon and Teviya discussing the next scene. Yes is was very very hot!
We started early in the morning and continued to shoot until the daylight ran out. We were racing against sunset.
It was extremely hot during the day and then became increasingly cold as the sun disappeared.
#moodalldaylong lol Ray tried to photobomb and got blurred 🙂
Boss lady keeping track of things
And of course some classic Jpixx inappropriate fun. It never fails to happen on set lol Don’t mind us!
“Carried Away” is currently undergoing the film festival circuit and will probably eventually be released online. Be on the lookout for a sneak peak or join our mailing list to be the first to know.
The 2nd Annual Filmily Fest Screening proved to be a huge success with twice the filmmaking teams and almost three times the crowd as last year. The Hampton Roads film industry and film lovers alike came to celebrate a night of 12 remarkable films at the Naro Expanded Cinema. In addition to attracting a larger crowd, Filmily drew more sponsors, prizes, perks, and glamour and dazzle.
Take a peek inside for a look at our night celebrating a night of storytelling and talent in Hampton Roads!
The Road to Filmily
But first let’s start off with some videos of the road leading up to the big screening 🙂
Filmily – Screening Teaser Promo
On December 11, guests arrived at the Naro in Norfolk, VA ready to get their red carpet on. We truly have some superstars on our hands by the looks of this video! 🙂
As you can see, the theatre lobby was packed with folks trying to get their beer (provided by O’Connor Brewing Co.) and pizza from YNot Italian.
The night was full of glitz and glamour with a red carpet and Filmily Fest backdrop for guests to get paparazzi’ed outside the theatre. Best Actress nominations were laced with glamorous jewelry from sponsor Tidewater Keepsake Jewelry to don throughout the night! Fancy right? Check out some of the nominees showing off their bling 🙂

The theatre was packed and gasps, laughs and cheers were heard all throughout the night.

We are so excited to inspire artists to get out of their comfort zone to put their vision on the big screen. Your hard work has paid off and we hope you had a wonderful experience meeting new people while doing something you love. We wouldn’t have a festival if it weren’t for you!
Major thank you to Teviya and Jon who conceptualized and organized Filmily Fest. It is your vision that brought this festival to life. What you have done for the film community in the Hampton Roads area is phenomenal!

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy welcomed the Jpixx crew back to school to shoot interviews of staff, faculty and students for a series of videos about the NSA mission and history using their personal experiences with the school. “Honor Above All” was a phrase we heard often during our visit at NSA, which is also the school’s motto.
It took our crew two long shoot long days to cover both campuses but we got to see the Upper School Ceremony, Friday Night Football and the 3D Printing Lab in action – along with scores of after-school activities that highlighted the NSA experience. Check out some BTS photos of our memorable time with the Saints!
The kids were enamored with Jon’s camera and immediately flocked to him to see what he was doing. I think we have some future photographers on our hands!
The kids are simulating plate tectonics using graham crackers and chocolate.
Things got yummy and messy at the same time lol
LCD action!
Chandler unintentionally (or intentionally?) striking a male model pose while holding the movi, we should secretly submit him to Americas Next Top Model. Right?
Patrick Whelan (NSA Alum and Dean of Students) Gettin’ powdered up. Sometimes you gotta do it for the cam lol
Jon loving what he does…so obvi!
These two (Karen Schompert and Kristine Bryne) having fun in the field.
To top it off we even met a student (Violet Johnston) at NSA who we found out is in a family of budding actors. Well, after one phone call and audition, her sister Olivia landed a starring role in our newest short film Carried Away, which premiered at Filmily Fest in December.
Now back to the regularly scheduled program – without further ado please sit back and prepared to be dazzled with one of our finished videos! And if you are in need of some of this magical video branding dazzle please give us a shout here to see how we can help you #shamelessplug 🙂
If you are interested in enrolling your child at NSA, be sure to attend their open house to learn more.
Jpixx teamed up with Easton Advertising to create a brand new series of testimonial and branding videos for Chesapeake Homes about their experience. Lynn Easton (owner of Easton Advertising and owner of AWESOMENESS) was on set each day, interviewing homebuyers and making sure things ran smoothly. Whatever Lynn wants, Lynn gets! 🙂
Actual homebuyers detailed their satisfaction with the superb customer service from the Chesapeake Homes team, from visiting the construction site to move-in day. Sales agents help each homebuyer, ensuring their customers feel good about the most important purchase they will make in their life…their home.
The Jpixx team saw first-hand the beauty of Chesapeake Homes. The energy efficiency features such as the tankless water heaters, programmable thermostats, energy efficient lighting and much more save energy and money. Who wouldn’t love that? Don’t forget to check out Chesapeake Homes if you’re in the market for a new home! You won’t be disappointed.
In the mean time, check out the BTS pics from our 4-day shoot 🙂
Day 1: In addition to the testimonial interviews, we captured lots of b-roll of families enjoying their their time in their new home. (like enjoying ice cold glass of lemonade on the porch or just arm wrestling siblings) Everyone had a blast. Keep scrolling for a glimpse of the Jpixx shenanigans that happen on set. lol
DAY 2: The days just keep getting better with Chesapeake Homes and Easton Advertising! We had the opportunity to visit the construction site and got b-roll of a different set of families as well.
Jon taking calls and kicking arse lol
CHANDLER: Jessa if we split the rent it will be $100k a piece
JESSA: Okayyyy so we need about 50 more roommates and it might work!
Day 3: A new day, a different set of homeowners to interview and another brand new home we were plotting on how to secretly move into without Lynn and the Chesapeake Homes crew noticing. lol 🙂
Day 4: Our last day shooting was spent getting interviews with Chesapeake Homes realtors and more cuteness overload compliments of the additional families who came out.
Our day began with taking photos and video of what a Chesapeake Home looks like from the ground up. We captured the construction on site and construction workers putting in blood, sweat and tears to make the best Chesapeake Home for potential buyers.
Ok, maybe blood, sweat and tears is too extreme but everyone who works at Chesapeake Homes really does care about the quality of work they put in everyday.
Aren’t they the cutest?
And on to the kitchen, where are the magic happens … HEY–get your mind out of the gutter…that’s for later lol 😉
And Josiah (Art Director) is pleased with the outcome or maybe he’s trying hard not to scarf it down before it makes it to the table?
Looks like this lil munchkin is giving Josiah the job well done high five or maybe a ta-ta peasant? Hard to say…
This Chesapeake Homes realtor is camera ready!
And while we all sweat from working hard, our make-up artist, Victoria sits pretty drinking her Starbucks lol
Lynn surrendered her eyeball to this cutie pie…how could she not?
We ended the day with this family (who happens to be friends of Jon and Teviya) and of course our classic group shot!
Then we kicked the kids out for our NSFW video lol
This was an awesome 4 day shoot that was spread out over the course of two months. Each day we came back it felt like nothing changed, same smiling people passionate about their jobs and providing the very best for their clients. Thank you to John Barnes, President of Chesapeake Homes, Kerri Woodward, Sales and Marketing Manager and Lynn Easton, co-owner of Easton Advertising!
And without further ado, part 2 (see part 1 here – scroll to the end) of our BTS video skit. Sometimes when we’re on set, we try to incorporate the scene with a random skit that we make up on the spot. Please don’t take our inappropriateness seriously lol.
Filmily Fest is back again for 2016! The mission of the festival is to strengthen the film community in Hampton Roads by creating dynamite films and improving their work through peer reviews.
Filmily Fest provides a platform for local artists to not only work together to enhance their craft but to showcase their innovative and extraordinary vision at a celebratory night of screening and awards. Filmmakers receive feedback from their peers on how to improve scripts and edits, but they also can share crew members, equipment and ideas. Everything is fair and friendly right down to how the films are judged, which is by the participating filmmakers themselves.
Currently, we have about a half dozen teams in production and will continue to be until Thanksgiving. Each team was given six photos to inspire their film, two weeks to shoot, edit and turn in their film, followed by an extra week for director’s cut.
Check out some behind-the-scenes pics of the filmmaking groups that are in production now!

Every high schooler has to ask themselves an important question, “Am I going to go to college?” But that’s not the only worry, the next question is, “how am I going to pay for college?”
The ACCESS College Foundation helps thousands of students go to college. Counselors are put in schools throughout Hampton Roads to help students apply to college and help fill out FAFSA forms and provide moral support during a process that can be very hard.
At ACCESS College Foundation’s Annual Luncheon at the Marriott in downtown Norfolk, they thanked the donors who have helped the thousands of students in the area attend college. Donors heard speeches from students and parents of students who benefitted from their donations and the Jpixx crew caught it all on camera. Keep scrollin’ below to get a first-hand view of our day with ACCESS College Foundation.
Jon, Will and Katie are ready!
ODU student Christelle Hollomon gave an emotional speech about how much she appreciated the ACCESS College Foundation and shared her story. Her family was going through a rough time financially and then the unthinkable happened…her father passed away. Without the ACCESS College Foundation, she wouldn’t have received a full scholarship to college. There were lots of teary eyes in the room and she received a standing ovation for her speech.
Kimberly Adams was another speaker who delivered a speech about how the ACCESS College Foundation helped her son Israel go to college. She could not afford to send him to school because of their financial situation but ACCESS College Foundation found a way.
For every dollar that is invested ACCESS converts that dollar into $20. That’s a huge return on investment!
