Meet The Crew: Eliana Moitinho

When did you know that you wanted to pursue career marketing and media creation?

I’ve always been interested in a creative career. I remember my first dream job when I was younger was to be a fashion designer. From there I took art classes all growing up and ended up doing photography for a little while too. I became interested in brand and product design, meanwhile also having a passion for writing and social media. Pairing those interests together, marketing and media creation seemed like the best career fit for me and I have loved working in it ever since!

What do you love the most about marketing?

I love to write so I would say creating a brand story. Finding a brand’s voice is crucial to an overall successful marketing campaign, so I really enjoy being a part of that initial process!

What excites you the most about working at Jpixx?

Capturing BTS at all the cool shoots! I really enjoy being on set with my other team members and meeting all of our great clients. I also just like being nosey and getting a glimpse into all the different industries like education and the medical field, it’s so fascinating!

What other hobbies or past times are you interested in?

When it’s nice out I love going to the beach (I’m there basically every day during the summer). I also love hiking and finding new trails to explore. Being from Central Virginia, I was close to all the pretty hikes in Blue Ridge and Shenandoah, and the Southeast region. I also love reading and when I can read a good book on the beach, I’m happy. I also love trying new recipes and going out and eating new types of foods with my friends.

What is your favorite place you’ve ever visited?

That’s a hard question! I love to travel and would love to do more each year. The top place that comes to mind would have to be Lisbon, Portugal. Being Brazilian, I loved getting to visit another country that shares the Portuguese language. I spent a week there with my friends last September and we had a blast trying the amazing food, seeing the beautiful nature and beaches, discovering fresh markets, and getting lost in the city.

Do you have any passion projects that you would like to achieve?

I wouldn’t call it a project necessarily, but one of my goals has always been to keep learning more languages. I have always wanted to be fluent in Italian so I am making it my mission to keep learning it before I take a trip there one day. I would also love to get back into photography and start doing portraits!

Do you have any inspiration creatively or in life?

I find inspiration through the places I visit, but mainly through music! Music is a huge part of my life and I’m always one to make a new Spotify playlist at any chance I get. I enjoy basically all genres of music and it really helps me look back at my life in parts based on the kinds of artists I was into at the time.

What do you think you would bring to the Jpixx team?

My passion for writing is definitely something that I bring to the table! I also feel like I am pretty creative, and I love bouncing ideas around with the rest of the team!

University of Virginia Otolaryngology Residency

The UVA Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, is currently one the leading programs in the country when it comes to providing expert otolaryngolic care! It’s not too much of a challenge to highlight the quality of UVA School of Medicine.

Within three days, we captured 27 interviews with residents and faculty as well as b-roll of multiple live surgeries and b-roll with patients and care-givers. Much like the subjects of our video, we definitely got our steps in each shoot day!

Lizzie led this shoot with poise and a wonderful execution.

I love when we get to go to UVA! This is now our third time working with one of the medical departments at UVA, and it’s a pleasure each time. One of my favorite things about this shoot is that at this point, we are pretty familiar with the grounds of UVA, so it’s easy to move around and we know where we’re going. I particularly loved seeing how close-knit this Otolaryngology department is. Everyone seemed to have such a great time working together to get b-roll shots with us. I bonded with Dr. Kesser, especially, over our shared love of the Washington Commanders (#HTTC)!

I also have to give a shout out to my boyz–the dream team! This packed shoot schedule would not have been possible to tackle without Jackson and Trey right by my side at the helm. Trey was always so quick and ready to grab b-roll shooting on the Ronin, and Jackson kept track of all batteries, cards, and general gear organization so that I could focus on checking all the boxes on the client’s shot list.

Go Hoos!

Meet The Crew: Jess Flores

Jess Flores isn’t a new member of the team, she’s been with us for 3 years and with every year she continues to grow in every aspect of her job. Jess is an exceptional producer, actress, and filmmaker. We are extremely fortunate to have her a part of the team. Below we asked her about her love for production, books, and music!

How or where did you get your passion for creating and producing?

I feel like a lot of my passion for creating comes from my family, especially my mom. Growing up, we were always in the arts — dance, musical theatre, visual arts… everything! I’d been on a stage from the age of 7 all the way up to early 20s (I’ll occasionally make appearances now haha). Once I was in college, I started having a love for what goes on behind the camera and found that’s where my real passion was and now, here I am!

What aspect of producing are you most fond of?

I love being able to see a project from its very beginning stages to the very end. Seeing these creations come to life is just amazing and then the relationships that you make along the way are even better.

What do you enjoy the most about working at Jpixx?

Uh, have you met the people I work with?! They’re freaking awesome. They’re the most fun and supportive people I’ve ever worked with. I can’t forget to mention that they’re also extremely talented. Everyone works so well together and when we all get to collaborate on a project, it’s like magic. I also love the relationships/partnerships that we make with our clients. They become an extended family of Jpixx.

Can you think of your favorite shoot you’ve done with Jpixx?

I come from a TV/film background, so any project where we get to hire actors, I get to put together crazy call sheets, and be on set with the whole team is my favorite. It takes me back to the days when I first started in this business right out of college and I also get to see how much I’ve grown since then. It’s pretty cool!

What do you think you bring to the team?

Laughs, lots of laughs! I’m quite silly in the office and my co-workers make me feel like I’m the funniest person on earth. But on a real note, I feel as though I bring a lot of positive energy, structure, and support to the team. I’ve also been able to bring in some of my past experience and implement that into what Jpixx does.

Is there anything that Jpixx has taught you in the past three years?

Oh gosh, they’ve taught me so much over the last three years. But I would say the number one thing is to believe in myself.

What hobbies or interests do you have outside of production?

I am the biggest book nerd right now. I have a goal of reading 50 books in 2022 and I’m already on books 40 and 41 (yes, I’m reading two simultaneously). I’m always up for a relaxing day on the beach or taking my Jeep on the beach in OBX. I try to get myself into a dance class or two every now and then as well.

Favorite music artist?

I have such a wide variety of music that I listen to. I love Common Kings, Taking Back Sunday (and all other pop punk/alternative from the 90s/00s), Darius Rucker/Hootie and the Blowfish, and you’ll definitely catch me rapping some Luda if he’s on.

What are some of your favorite books of all time?

Give me anything by Colleen Hoover; that woman hits all my emotions. Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica was INSANE! Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson came out this year and that’s definitely one of my favorite reads as well.

NSYNC or Backstreet Boys and why?

WHY ARE YOU MAKING ME ANSWER THIS?! Ah, I’m going to say BSB and don’t make me tell you why. I did just see them in concert though and it was hands down one of the best concerts I’ve been to. I don’t think I’ve been around so many other women in their 30s all squealing like we were little teeny boppers again.

Do you have any advice to give to newer people in the industry?

Get in there! Start making your connections, work hard, and be receptive. What you put into the industry is definitely what you’ll get out of it. Oh, and be nice 🙂

Meet The Crew: Jillian Breyer

We are very excited to have our newest Office Production Coordinator, Jillian Breyer! Jillian hails from New York City and has an extensive background in TV Productions where she has worked on some of your favorite series! We are happy she found her way down to Hampton Roads and joined our team! Learn more about

Where did the bug for producing and media creation start for you?

When I was younger, though I originally aspired to become a Pediatrician, I knew that my passion lay within the entertainment industry. I navigated toward movies and television because it was a comfort, and they were always there when I needed or wanted them.
During my junior year of high school, I took a communications course and realized there’s so much more to Film and Television than acting, directing, and writing. That’s when I learned about the business side of entertainment.
In college, I had a close circle of 4-5 friends, and we’d get together almost daily to brainstorm and film shorts on YouTube. I learned so much about collaboration and editing during this time. It opened my eyes to the potential films can have. This was my first introduction to filmmaking, and I knew I wanted to be part of the much larger world of film and television.

What excites you the most about working at Jpixx?

Knowing that every day and every project will be different. The number of relationships with businesses and foundations Jpixx built make each day exciting because you never truly know what you’re going to be working on next! Not only do we get to capture amazing footage, but we also get to learn about various industries and careers we’d never heard of or thought we’d interact with.
Creating relationships with clients and seeing, hearing, or reading their feedback makes the job worth it.

What is your favorite aspect of producing?

My favorite thing about producing is a sense of control. We are the liaison between the client and creative team and can help steer the client in the direction the creative team requests or wants. If the client is asking for too much, we can put a halt to what they’re asking and suggest an idea that would best work for them as well as our team. Being a great producer not only comes from the producer alone, but it also stems from teamwork and figuring out what would be best for the client.

What other hobbies or pastimes are you interested in?

I am a die-hard hockey fan and live near the Norfolk Scope so I try to frequent Admirals games as much as I can! During the NHL season, you can always catch me watching a New York Rangers game.
On the weekends, I enjoy checking out coffee shops I haven’t tried and thrifting. I also try to throw in a farmers’ market at least once a month!

What are your 3 deserted island albums?

This is tough one!

  1. Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young – Déjà vu
  2. The Velvet Underground – The Velvet Underground & Nico
  3. Led Zeppelin – Led Zeppelin III

One must go. Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, or Fleetwood Mac?

This must be the toughest question on here! If I MUST choose, I will say goodbye to Fleetwood Mac.
Sorry Mick, Christie, Stevie, Lindsay, and John!!!

Do you have any other passion projects that you might be interested in?

Music has always been a giant part of my personality and who I am. I’ve always wanted to be part of a film or documentary about notable music venues from the 60s-80s all over the country. Being raised in NYC, knowing about those venues where most, if not all off my favorite artists started out, has always piqued my interest.

What is your favorite food?

My husband introduced me to Ethiopian cuisine while we were dating. He is not Ethiopian but had a handful of Ethiopian friends in high school.
Being a vegetarian, their cuisine is super vegetarian/vegan friendly and delicious! Another plus is that you get to eat with your hands! Each dish is scooped using Injera which is a fermented pancake-like flatbread.

Do you have any inspiration? Creatively or just in life?

As cliché as this might sound, my inspirations in life have always been my parents. They always believed in me and pushed me to reach for my dreams and goals in life. When I changed universities and majors, they understood my decision and wanted the best for me.
My inspiration creatively is my husband. He has a background in theater and worked in film for a few years. He sees things from an actor’s perspective, and I appreciate his input when I speak with him about numerous ideas I have. Often, I see projects from a practical and business standpoint. He is the person I turn to for an artistic opinion or input.

What do you think you bring to the Jpixx Team?

When working with a new team, I think about my skillset and analyze what I can assist with to help the production and/or company grow. Keeping a positive outlook as well as an equal balance of hard work and fun are important to me. I bring my best each day with a smile on my face and I hope I can spread the happiness!

Is there any advice you can give to someone new in the industry?

The biggest advice I can give anyone is to NEVER give up, no matter what others tell you. If you have a dream, desire, a light you need to shine, let it happen. If I listened to the numerous people who told me that I should find a “backup career,” I would not be the person I am today. More importantly, I would not be happy. If you do what makes you happy, you will succeed.
Another piece of advice that I feel is important is to make as many connections as you can. Network, network, network! The more people you know within the industry of your preference, the easier it will be to get your foot in the door and find long-term careers. It never hurts to speak to professionals and ask questions!

Painting a Solid Picture of the Fight

In December of 2021, the duo of Jpixx and Roc Solid joined forces once again. With Roc Solid’s tenacious community and determined mission to help fight childhood cancer, and our love for a powerful narrative, we started on a video that would open up their Roc The Holiday Event. This year’s theme was “I Can, I Will”. We’re used to helping organizations bring themes and mottos to a visual medium. But the biggest challenge this time was to also shed immense light on Kierra and her late son Elijah, who passed away from cancer in March of 2020. We definitely felt the pressure to make Kierra proud for sharing hers and Elijah’s story with us. We worked extremely hard to create the promo video for 2021 Roc The Holiday Event.

(If you have yet to see the video please click the link below)

Eric introduced us to the idea of punching a canvas with colorful paint. The end product would be a beautiful abstract piece of art signifying the fight of cancer. The mess of the paint and uncertainty of the amount of splatter off the canvas is another metaphor of how the fight is not easy and it will affect you and those close enough to see it happen. We wanted to hone in on the decision to fight, and how important it is to make that decision. The moment you say to yourself “I Can, I Will” is the moment you put on your gloves.

Before the action, Jon, Jackson, DeLora, and Trey set up an interview with Kierra. Immediately after meeting Kierra, we all sensed her strength and willfulness as she spoke about Elijah. With each break to drink water and take a breath, Ashley prepped more questions. Of course, we wanted to get as much as we could out of the short time we had, but we also just wanted to know more about Elijah. His love for life and his family, the hobbies he had, the toys he played with, and his fighting soul (which he seemingly obtained from his mother).

Then came some b-roll shots. Kierra did a great job taking direction from Jon. Her emotions were raw, and Jon was able to find the exact feeling to be portrayed on camera. Kierra did not hesitate to bring them forth. It was as if she had been waiting for this moment.

Kierra was accompanied by her family. All of them had been there to help her in her fight. The energy of their family and all of the Roc Solid community filled the warehouse. Elijah’s brother and two sisters took turns hitting the canvas with various colors. Meanwhile, Jackson, Trey, and Jon ran around grabbing different angles of each hit and trying to guess where the paint would splatter next. The Roc Solid crew cheered from the sides, and for a second it felt like we were on set filming a scene for the next Rocky spinoff.

It’s a privilege to tell someone’s story, and we are honored to help do it with Roc Solid families. Thank you Kierra and family for your grace in sharing your story and Elijah’s legacy. And thank you Roc Solid for continuing the fight.

Lizzie’s Monday Survival Guide

“Happy Monday everyone!” I wonder if that phrase has actually ever made anyone feel better about their Monday? I (Trey) can say that it hasn’t made me feel any better about the start of a long week and the official ending of the weekend. Making it through the work week can be a tremendous feat, but starting it off on a good note is really the tough part. To help you with that, take a look at our Lizzie’s Monday Survival Guide Series!

Lizzie’s Monday Survival Guide was an idea from the mind of Lizzie Bankowski herself during my first week at Jpixx. After a few months passed by, we sat down together to talk about any creative ideas we can do for our social media. We were looking for something fresh and interesting that shows off our humor and some of our personality. I wrote down a few different scripts for sketches, and with some helping hands, we were ready to shoot! I thought it would be humorous to over-exaggerate Lizzie and her passion to keep the gear room in order. I also found it funny to add small moments of suspense and eerie sound cues. I feel like it not only exaggerated Lizzie’s personality, but it also created a persona of fear which played off well.

After watching the first tip of Lizzie’s Monday Survival Guide, I started to feel a little worried about portraying Lizzie with such a frightening and angry presence. If you know Lizzie, she is the sweetest person you will ever meet! And no, she did not force me to write that…. For tip #2 I thought it would be better for Lizzie to be more relatable this go around. When I came back from my week-long vacation, I had a feeling of dread. I wasn’t dreading coming back to work, but having to deal with real life problems again. I thought that this feeling is something that everyone can relate to.

Our intern Cade helped me put together the script for our second installment of Lizzie’s Monday Survival Guide. Lizzie acted out the feeling of leaving vacation perfectly and Tip #2 was the most fun to shoot so far. I mean, we got to spend most of our Friday on the beach!

Lizzie’s Monday Survival Guide really helped me branch out creatively. I love how it started as a joke and became something that we put effort and time into. Only at Jpixx could something like this come to fruition. I’m thankful for our passion to Capture Life Creatively. Any idea is worth giving a try! Stay tuned for more tips from Lizzie and her trusty Survival Guide!

Our Favorite Gear: Trey Batchelor

My Favorite piece of gear is the 16-35mm lens. I really like to push my creativity with this lens. Within the past month I have been having a lot of fun finding new angles and tricks to add a bit more flair to my wide shots.

My favorite combo is getting this lens on the C70 and a Freefly MōVI to get those very grand moving wide shots. I love the ability to get a whole area in a shot, but also getting close to a subject for a different look. Also, like Lizzie, I enjoy setting up and troubleshooting the MōVI. It is so satisfying to finally get it off the ground and start shooting!

Our Favorite Gear: Lizzie Bankowski

My favorite piece of gear is the MOVI! I love the grand, sweeping shots that it allows us to create. I also love the process of setting up the MOVI and getting it balanced and rigged out depending on what we’re looking to accomplish on any given shoot day. Call me crazy, but I even love when something isn’t working quite right and I get the chance to troubleshoot the rig. The more complicated, the better! 😈

Our Favorite Gear: Savannah Heller

My favorite piece of gear is the MixPre-6! It is an audio mixer that allows for many different kinds of inputs, allowing it to send out audio to a camera or computer, and/or record the audio on its own, with the ability to be connected to up to 6 other devices at one time.

The reason I like this device so much is for the problem-solving aspect of it. Having to figure out how to get different types of microphones from point A to point B is very fun to me! Once everything is connected, having on the headphones and hearing everything in crystal clear surround sound, being able to control volume levels, and being able to call out that chatter that’s happening two rooms over when it starts interrupting… it feels a lot like a super power in a way. So all in all, the MixPre-6 is an essential device for any audio tech or location/studio record!

Our Favorite Gear: Jon Abrahams

I really love the Teradek monitoring systems. The Teradek Serv Pro has not only allowed us to provide the client with a live shot of any of our cameras, but it has also given us the opportunity to have our directors monitor the full scope of coverage in real-time – which is helping us step up our game big time.

My second fav gear is the portable reflector. Such an unsung hero to add or block light. It takes zero electricity and is easy to bring to any shoot. And it’s fun to watch interns try and close it for the first time.

Our Favorite Gear: Jackson Begley

My favorite piece of gear is the 70-200mm lens. It covers such a wide spread of focal lengths and can be used for a variety of situations. The lens stabilization built into the lens paired with a camera’s own stabilization allows the user to get great, tight shots with a shallow depth of field all while being hand held.

My second favorite piece of gear is a nice fluid-head tripod. Being able to move your frame elegantly always makes for a professional composition.
