Ask the Eye | The Team’s Favorite Super Bowl Commercials

Super Bowl LVIII… we laughed, we cried, we danced, we chewed our nails to the bed, but in the end we witnessed a game that will live forever in history; Kind of crazy to think we were just a few of the 123.4 million viewers of this most-watched American television broadcast. And none happier than co-founder Jon Abrahams (AKA – The Virginia Beach Chapter Prez of #ChiefsKingdom).

But beyond the football, “the commercials and movie trailers this year were BANGIN’!” – Glenn Dano

So we chatted as a team and came up with some of our favorite spots from this year’s game. Check out our top rankings.

1. Paramount +

Paramount + takes first on the Jpixx charts! With a mix of celebrity cameos, comedic dialogue, Peppa Pig’s one-liner, and Creed (of course), we all agreed that this one made us laugh the most – and even encouraged some of us to refresh our subscriptions to the platform. “Barrymore, shut your face!”

2. CeraVe

Fans of Michael Cera enjoyed this celebrity endorsed mock-ad for CeraVe Moisturizing Cream. But many people haven’t seen the additional marketing that surrounded the ad, including this extremely cringy interview with Bobbi Althoff and this publicity event with Haley Kalil.

3. Dunkin’ Donuts

And finally, to round out the favs (which all included celebrities poking fun at themselves) – we have the DunKings, starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. When your supporting cast includes Jack Harlow and Tom Brady, there is a lot at stake, but the best part has to be Matt hanging his head in shame at his best friend’s antics. “Sometimes it’s really hard to be your friend” – we’ve all been there before!

Do you have any favorites to add to the list? Please let us know so we can stop seeing GIFs of Jon celebrating the Chiefs big Super Bowl win (available for anyone to use on giphy.com).

Your NEW VPA Board Member

Stop everything! News alert: we’re so excited to announce that Jon Abrahams, Director and Co-Owner of Jpixx, is the newest board member of the Virginia Production Alliance’s Hampton Roads Chapter!

DC Jpixx

After being a member of the Alliance for many years and also creating this awesome promo,

Jon is thrilled to be joining a great group of board members. Leading the board is Chairman Tom White, who best explained what the mission of the VPA is:

“The Virginia Production Alliance exists to inspire professional development in our student filmmakers, provide advocacy for film production in Richmond and to encourage the collaboration and networking of Virginia’s most creative minds in film and television.”

VPA Chairman Tom White

After more than a decade in film, Jon looks forward to joining this collaborative effort to inspire a new generation of filmmakers right in our backyard.

Finally, we were tickled pink by White’s touching words about our group and fearless leader.

“I believe that Jon Abrahams and Jpixx are a perfect example of the talented collaborators the VPA is looking to bring together,” White said. “Jon has been a representative of our film community, a teacher to many, and a friend to all. I’m proud and honored to have him serve as a sitting member on this year’s board.”

The VPA has big plans for this year, so stay tuned to our blog and the VPA Hampton Roads Facebook Page to find out more!

Behind the Scenes of “Nearsighted” Project Greenlight Shoot

We’re wrapping up with Project Greenlight and hope you’ll consider becoming a judge so you can vote on the best videos (AKA our “Nearsighted”)!

Our full day of shooting began with most of the cast meeting at Jpixx headquarters for the “Nearsighted” Project Greenlight shoot at 9am on August 2nd.  Props and equipment were gathered by our crew, while hair, make-up, and wardrobe transformed our wonderful cast.

We headed over to Central 111 and, in no time, armed with fake mixed drinks, go-go dancers, a drag queen, and extra club-goers, filming began.  The club was bumping by noon!  We partied until the club opened at 4pm.  Check out the amazing and gorgeous cast/crew below!

Our hard-working intern, Chandler, caught some Zzzz’s while we waited for night to fall.

The evening was met with a lot of rain and patience.  After filming the front entrance scene, the entire cast and crew headed through a packed and provocatively dressed crowd, to the back entrance of the club.  (no we didn’t get pictures of that). Somewhere around midnight, we all huddled under umbrellas and our hatchback lids to eat Brothers Pizza, which for some reason was the best tasting pizza we had ever eaten.

We have to give a huge THANK YOU to our umbrella holders and all who persevered through the entire shoot until the final crew shot was taken at 2:15am!  Side note – Jon got to be the FIRST person young Morgan Bruce drove with outside of her family (learning permit). Woohooo!!!

You guys all rock! Thanks for coming together to put together this wonderful film!
